1. Trans Fats
The good news is that not all fat is bad for you, but certain types of fat known as trans fats have a harmful effect on the brain.
People who consume high amounts of trans fats, such as canned foods and high-fat dairy products, have a higher risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia. Trans fats are naturally present in most fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains, but even these are not safe from the industrially produced trans fat that is pumped into all kinds of packaged foods. Studies have shown that a high intake of these trans oils also leads to higher blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, cancer, Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease and other health problems.
